Natural Resource Management
The management of natural resources is an increasingly vital and complex issue with implications that often transcend local, national and regional boundaries. Population growth is increasing demand on finite natural resources and poor resource management is causing environmental degradation and destroying many habitats and individual species.
People’s welfare must be balanced with conservation of the environment and the preservation of biodiversity. In achieving this balance the wider issues of national and regional policies, international conventions and trans-frontier conservation initiatives need to be understood and applied to local conditions. By utilising traditional skills and local knowledge it is possible to develop alternative livelihood systems that not only open up new avenues for economic and social development, but also empower local communities.
Harewelle’s experience includes the planning and management of national parks, community-based natural resource management schemes, and large scale conservation programmes. We accomplish our work through the use of multi-disciplinary teams comprising both national and international expertise, that are able to take a holistic approach to resource management encompassing technical, financial, economic, and social factors.
Examples of our projects include:
Papua New Guniea - Technical Assistance for the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Project - Phase 2
Bangladesh - Fourth Fisheries Project
