Growth

Market trader, Bhagerat, Bangladesh - Picture taken by Richard GillettGrowth is vital for development. If countries and regions are not given the necessary support and assistance to economically and socially grow then it is difficult to make any impact on poverty reduction in the developing world. By encouraging and stimulating growth, it is possible to help the poorest countries and people in the world to ultimately help themselves and let them develop their own futures.

National growth and development incorporates more than just economic and financial growth. It looks at a much wider array of socio-economic factors that enable people to improve their lives, such as medical access, education, training, and working conditions. Ideally economic growth and development will also be accompanied by improvements in other socio-economic indicators. It is not, however, guaranteed that these developments will coincide with economic growth. If countries are to develop both economically and socially it is important that they receive the right support from the international development community.
