Provision of a short-term fisheries economist to a project designed to improve the productivity of Burundi’s fisheries sector. The consultant’s responsibilities were wide ranging, but included reviewing the current status and prevailing trends in the sector, determining and reporting on its current development potential, constraints and objectives, reviewing and assessing current and proposed Government fisheries legislation, and identifying short and medium term strategies for sector development and management - with particular focus on artisanal fishing.
