Ecosystem Services for Poverty Alleviation (ESPA)
The DEW Point Resource Centre has been contracted to assist in the launch of the £40 million Ecosystem Services for Poverty Alleviation (ESPA). ESPA is a 7 year programme aiming to deliver high quality and cutting-edge research that will improve our understanding of ecosystems in relation to poverty reduction and inclusive growth processes.
ESPA has been designed to focus on six key areas, including Water, Health, Forests, Biodiversity, Coastal and Political Economy in relation to the research landscape. The programme will work mainly in four regions of the world; South Asia, China, Sub-Saharan Africa and the Amazon Andes region.
DEW Point’s role in the launch has been to prepare a number of materials, including leaflets, handouts and presentations to be used in awareness-raising and capacity-building activities regionally. To assist in these processes there will be a number of regional launch partners, which include:
- South Asia - Practical Action Consulting (PAC) in Nepal and Natural Resources Management Consultants (NRMC) in India
- East Africa - National Resources International (NRI) in Kenya
- South Africa - Project Management and Training Consultants (PMTC) in Zambia and Harewelle in South Africa
