As well as raising funds for the operational costs of the charity the event provides a fun day out and a party for children from the various homes based in and around Lusaka.

John Woolner, Harewelle Chairman, organised the inaugural Wheel Chair Run in 1996 when he was based in Zambia.  This has continued every year with various Harewelle members; Mike Woolford, Matt Morley and recently Duncan Rhind, PMTC (Zambia) Managing Director; taking an active role in organising and supporting this very successful event.
