The Harewelle Africa Indaba
The Harewelle Group recently held a two day Africa Indaba (gathering) based at the Timbali Lodge in Mbabane, Swaziland. Harewelle Group staff and the non-executive directors from the head office in Blisworth joined with the staff from Zambia, Lesotho, South Africa and Swaziland.
The two day event provided the opportunity for the staff to review progress on company growth since the last strategic planning meeting held in the UK in March 2007. Detailed discussions took place on how we need to position ourselves to continue to win work with the major development aid funders. With this in mind the participants also looked at resourcing requirements; particularly with regard to staffing.
Whilst in Swaziland we took the opportunity to visit one of Harewelle’s flagship natural resources project in the region – the Lower Usuthu Smallholder Irrigation Project. A number of Harewelle staff had visited the various structures comprising the water catchment and dispersal system but for many it was the first time they had seen the system ‘in full flow’.
The Indaba was hailed a great success by all who attended, not only by providing the opportunity for some in-depth thinking on determining the way forward but also providing the chance for staff from around the region to meet, some for the first time, and interact with the UK-based contingent.
