Mike Woolford visits Papua New Guinea
Mike Woolford, Managing Director of Harewelle International, recently spent just under three weeks in Papua New Guinea. He was standing in for Richard Gillett, the Programme Manager of the EU-funded Rural Water Supply & Sanitation Programme (RWSSP) Phase II, who was taking his annual leave. Mike was based in Port Moresby and worked out of the Programme Management Unit located in Gordons in the light industrial area.
He spent a fair amount of his time liaising with the EU Delegation and the National Authorising Office Support Unit to resolve a number of administrative and financial issues and had a very successful visit in this regard with full support coming from both parties. In addition, Mike worked with the RWSSP team (pictured) carrying out the evaluation of a number of proposals that have been submitted by Non-State Actors (NSAs). This was seeking funding to support health education and the installation of potable water systems and improved latrines in rural communities through the length and breath of PNG. A number of the NSAs were involved in Phase I of the Programme and have learnt useful lessons that they are carrying forward into Phase II.
As in Phase I the RWSSP is being implemented by a consortium of Harewelle International and Mott MacDonalds.
