Simon Mercer (DEW Point Commissioned Services Coordinator - UK)
Simon joined Harewelle in July 2008 as part of the DEW Point Resource Centre. In his role as DEW Point Support Assistant he provides support across a wide range of tasks involved in the identification, contracting, administration and management of commissioned services under the Resource Centre. Simon’s specific areas of interest are climate change, the environment-development nexus, and natural resource management, with a specific focus on forests.
His responsibilities include supporting the identification of commissioned services opportunities within DFID and their development partners; assembling and producing costed proposals of technical approaches in response to specific commissions; liaising with both DFID Contracts Branch Staff, and consultants on contractual and administrative issues; as well as assisting with the management and support of teams of consultants both in the UK and overseas.
Simon completed an MPhil in Environment, Society and Development at the University of Cambridge in 2007. He then worked for the Prince of Wales’ office for a year, initially as a Project Officer for ‘Accounting for Sustainability’ and subsequently as a Research Officer on the Prince’s Rainforest Project.
