Jim Parker (Senior Consultant - UK)
Jim joined Harewelle full time in 2001, although his association with the company goes back to 1993 when he worked for PMTC International on short-term assignments, mainly in Bangladesh. He is currently based in the PMTC Zambia office, assisting with the management of the Civil Society Environment Fund on behalf of the Danish and Finnish Embassies in Lusaka and conducting short-term assignments in Zambia and neighbouring countries.
This followed three years at Harewelle International head office serving as Manager of the DFID Resource Centre for Environment, Water and Sanitation, known as DEW Point, which provides knowledge management services, and procures and manages technical assistance for DFID in these sectors.
Prior to that he spent several years overseas for the company, first based in the PMTC Zambia Ltd office, where he was responsible for business development and carried out short-term assignments internationally. He then took the role of Deputy Project Manager and Human Resource Development Long Term Technical Assistant on the EU funded Implementation of a Fisheries Management Plan for Lake Victoria project, based in Jinja, Uganda.
Jim started his career in overseas development in 1977, when he worked at Mt Makalu Agricultural Research Station in Zambia and since then has worked in over 30 countries worldwide. While his initial vocational training was in crop protection (MSc at Reading University), he has subsequently been involved in natural resources research, extension and training (gaining a Cert. Ed. FE), human resource development, project management and institutional development. He has also worked as a lecturer in teacher and trainer education and as a full-time farmer in the UK.
