Nick Smart

Nick has been with Harewelle since 2005 when he joined as Regional Director for Southern Africa based in Lusaka.  As a director of the company Nick now splits his time between countries in the region including Zimbabwe where Harewelle are re-establishing a presence.

Nick directs a number of DFID, European Commission, World Bank and African Development Bank programmes which are being implemented by Harewelle International and he is presently Project Director for the DFID funded Priority Support Programme in Lesotho which is addressing food security and creating a better environment for growth and also the EC funded LUSIP initiative in Swaziland which is one of the largest irrigation schemes currently being implemented in Africa. Nick oversees the technical support for the establishment of the Swaziland Revenue Authority and provides day to day project management of the newly implemented EC programme for Capacity Building in Economic Planning in Lesotho.

Nick has more than 20 years experience working in Africa with a background in the design, management and review of development activities involving both the public sector and civil society.  He is an Environmental specialist by training and has worked in a number of different sectors and with most major donors and his experience includes financial governance, education, wildlife conservation, social development, public sector reform, international trade and food security.
